A Day in the Life of a Mom-Herbalist

This daily blog has been about the struggles of juggling motherhood with being a full-time student for the first eight months of its existence.  I still share some of my life now that I've graduated but I also share information each day on herbs that I've learned along this journey.   While my herbariums are listed for free membership, I provide four fields from them in my blog: Constituents (the active ingredients of the herbs), the therapeutic actions (Examples are expectorant and stimulant), indications (colds, skin rashes, emphysema, etc), and safety information. More information can be found in the herbariums but these are the most important educational fields.  I also share scientific studies to help educate people who think there are no studies showing herbs work.

Membership to this site is free.

My daughter deleted my entire web page yesterday when she stole my phone. I have deleted the app from my phone but it's going to take forever to reestablish everything I had on here. The previous posts are straight up gone.  While I continue to fume on an empty stomach, I'll leave you with this post below. The prompt was to update a monograph which is a list of facts about the herb, much like my virtual herbarium. It includes research that has been done.

I found something I didn’t see anywhere in our book and I think it’s great information. Hilmi et al. (2014) did some research with anti-oxidant herbs and discovered fennel was the most toxic against diabetes (type 2). They investigated 6 indigenous herbs in an attempt to find local and abundant sources to naturally treat diabetes. After reading this paper, I think the below can be safely added to the text book.

Budding research indicates diabetes is one of many illnesses that are causes, at least in part, by oxidative stress.  Recent studies, to include that by Hilmi, et al. (2014) show that antioxidants like Fennel may help with diabetic treatment.
With this being a common illness and this herb being a common one in many locations, I do think it’s a viable option to help people.  Of course, more studies should be done but this is very promising.

These pages are also linked on the Herbal Lists page but this is the list of things that get discussed more frequently so I added the link here.
