A Day in the Life of a Mom-Herbalism Student

This daily blog is about the struggles of juggling motherhood with being a full-time student.  I also share information each day on herbs that I've learned along this journey.  The herbs I am currently discussing are all things I received in my lab kits for class, meaning I get to actually work with them and pass on first-hand knowledge. While my herbariums are listed for free membership, I provide four fields from them in my blog: Constituents (the active ingredients of the herbs), the therapeutic actions (Examples are expectorant and stimulant), indications (colds, skin rashes, emphysema, etc), and safety information. More information can be found in the herbariums but these are the most important educational fields.

Membership to this site is free.

The rest of the constituents that are in my books were pretty quick today.  Tomorrow I will discuss oregano but I will remind everyone there seems to be a lack of information on this herb in my books but I'll share what I have available.  After that, I'll switch to last semester's discussion posts while I get those second semester herbariums ready for prime time.  There is so much great information I think everyone will love to hear!  The kids have had breakfast and are playing/watching Smurfs.  Little farm animals are dancing across my living room floor.  My son has driven his cars all over today.  When I get paid, I'm going to get him a backpack like I did for my daughter so he can have a special place for his most precious toys.  My daughter keeps her fairies in hers.  Tinkerbell and all her friends now travel with us when we leave the house.  She's going to be happy when I finally give her the Terrance figure!  I'd like to find Bobble and Clank as well.  I'll see what I can find before the holidays get here.  I have a Tinkerbell that is standing on a snowflake I'm giving her for Christmas.  My son has cars from Cars in the closet.  I love how easy the gift-giving is at this age...  I cherish it because I know it won't always be this way.  Of course, Tinkerbell isn't exactly easy but that's okay. I have a lot of work in my studies to do plus finding time to get those herbariums done so I can talk about them after my discussion posts. So much great information! Love and Light!

On to the constituents of gentian!

Swertiamarin is a seco-iridioid which means it was modified and is extremely bitter (Ganora, 2009, p. 68, 137).

Gentisic Acid is an antioxidant (Ganora, 2009, p. 65).

Amarogentin is a seco-iridioid which means it was modified and is extremely bitter (Ganora, 2009, p. 68, 137).

Constituents: marogentin, gentisen, gentisin, isogentisin, alkaloids (gentianine, gentialutine), phenolic acids (protocatechuic, syringic, sinapic acids), sugars (gentiobiose)

Have a Great Day!

I am currently a student at American College of Healthcare Sciences earning my Masters of Science degree in Herbal Medicine. This blog is my journey of juggling mom-life with student life. My husband is a truck driver so I'm essentially a single mom all but 3 days a month. It's a challenge but we will get through this. I complete this degree on 18 December 2019.  I plan to write books and continue here on my blog after I complete school.

Rather than using the Herbal Lists page for some things, let me try this and see what everyone thinks.
