A Day in the Life of a Mom-Herbalist

This daily blog has been about the struggles of juggling motherhood with being a full-time student for the first eight months of its existence.  I still share some of my life now that I've graduated but I also share information each day on herbs that I've learned along this journey.   While my herbariums are listed for free membership, I provide four fields from them in my blog: Constituents (the active ingredients of the herbs), the therapeutic actions (Examples are expectorant and stimulant), indications (colds, skin rashes, emphysema, etc), and safety information. More information can be found in the herbariums but these are the most important educational fields.  I also share scientific studies to help educate people who think there are no studies showing herbs work.

Membership to this site is free.

The day is racing by!  It's almost 10 am and we have not eaten breakfast yet!  It is cooking though.  My daughter is wondering where her plate is so I had to show her it's cooking.  I gave them some toast in the interim.  She went to sleep early last night and had a bad night.  For some reason, she decided she didn't have enough room and started kicking everyone.  Fun times.  She woke up in a good mood this morning, though, so I can't complain too much.  I'm working on devising my lab for the week for herbs and am listening to a 2-hour lecture right now on cancer.  It's very interesting. Apparently a lot of cancers are related to insulin resistance.  People don't even realize there's an issue and bam!  He just said oncologists are shocked and considering non-toxic cancer drugs making you live longer a miracle.  I think that just makes sense.  If you are sick and you take toxins, it's a race between the illness and the body to determine what kills you faster. Instead, you need to focus on what feeds the cancer and things like that.

Okay, breakfast is done.  Looks like we get to go pay more bills in a bit!  That makes me happy!  Keeping the lights on is a good thing.  I'm at over an hour into this video and got temporarily disgusted and wish I could share this video with you.  He talked about some of the fraud with the research about how "effective" some of the cancer treatments are.  I guess I should turn to the data I CAN share.  Time to start looking up the remaining items on the list and see how many I can fill out.

Pulegone is a mosquito and flea repellent but is toxic in cats so don't let your cats eat a plant containing this. There is also a possibility of it being hepaxtoxic (bad for the liver) so use with caution or as directed by a professional. (Ganora, 2009, p. 135)

That is all that's in my books.  I have had ants eating my feet while I stand here.  I just put down some diatomaceous earth so we'll see if they remain a problem.  They have not bitten me since I put that stuff down and vacuumed the floor. I also put some down on the ant hills outside that my husband uncovered when he mowed part of the lawn.  We need to get gas for the mower so he can finish.  I guess it's a bit wrong but I put the DE in with ground egg shells, which they also eat.  I'll check on that when I get a chance. Below are the ones I still have not broken out.  I have them highlighted in my word doc already so I know to check for them in new books and in research documents as I progress along my path.  Have a great day!

Active Constituents: diosmin. The essential oil contains diosphenol as well flavonoids. Hoffman (2003) says Volatile oil (menthone); flavonoids (diosmetin)
