A Day in the Life of a Mom-Herbalist

This daily blog has been about the struggles of juggling motherhood with being a full-time student for the first eight months of its existence.  I still share some of my life now that I've graduated but I also share information each day on herbs that I've learned along this journey.   While my herbariums are listed for free membership, I provide four fields from them in my blog: Constituents (the active ingredients of the herbs), the therapeutic actions (Examples are expectorant and stimulant), indications (colds, skin rashes, emphysema, etc), and safety information. More information can be found in the herbariums but these are the most important educational fields.  I also share scientific studies to help educate people who think there are no studies showing herbs work.

Membership to this site is free.

Semester 3, Week 14, Day 4

I turned in my cayenne paper yesterday!  This gives me 4 days to work on my ebola paper which is a good thing.  I need to make sure the sources I have are really good.  I got my grade back on my final.  I got a 73%. My grade has dropped down to a 91% which is still really good for someone who has read maybe 10 pages in the text book the entire semester!  Someday I will get them read because they are important.  Time is needed as well as a proper desk.  I'll get there.  I got the diapers washing so they can have clean butts.  I'm sure they appreciate that!  LOL  I need to get breakfast going and make the kids happy.  There is much grumpiness going on because of empty tummies.  I  did start working on herbariums from the second semester last night.  I didn't get far but that's okay.  My objective is to go back to second semester herbs once the 10 herbarium entries for 3rd semester are done.  This gives me time to get the rest of my work done and maybe even get ahead on it so I have a good start to next semester. Off to the kitchen to prepare something for my little ones to eat!

On to the actions of cinnamon.  This herb may get revisited in the future.  It's not in many of my books and the fact it's used to treat diabetes and that action is not included in my books means I need more books.  Not surprising.

Spermicidal means it's like a natural morning-after pill.  Obviously, don't use if trying to get pregnant. This kills sperm.

Constituents: Allybenzenes and their isomers (propenylbenzenes), monomeric and oligomeric proanthocyanidins (procyanidin B-2, procyanidin B-3), flavonoids (quercetin, kaempferol, luteolin, pelargonidin), potassium, calcium, iron, manganese, strontium. Each part has a different primary constituent – bark oil has cinnamaldehyde, leaf oil has eugenol, root bark oil has camphor. (Petersen, 2018, p. 165).

Have a great day!

These pages are also linked on the Herbal Lists page but this is the list of things that get discussed more frequently so I added the link here.
