A Day in the Life of a Mom-Herbalist

This daily blog has been about the struggles of juggling motherhood with being a full-time student for the first eight months of its existence.  I still share some of my life now that I've graduated but I also share information each day on herbs that I've learned along this journey.   While my herbariums are listed for free membership, I provide four fields from them in my blog: Constituents (the active ingredients of the herbs), the therapeutic actions (Examples are expectorant and stimulant), indications (colds, skin rashes, emphysema, etc), and safety information. More information can be found in the herbariums but these are the most important educational fields.  I also share scientific studies to help educate people who think there are no studies showing herbs work.

Membership to this site is free.

Ashwagandha and Thyroid

Today, I want to share something really awesome.  I had mentioned in previous posts that I was going to try taking ashwagandha for my thyroid and see what happens.  I quit taking my prescription and have taken ashwagandha for over a month now.  I had my thyroid tested last Monday and got the test results back and my TSH was within normal limits.

I did add cilantro to it to help with detox as well.

What I did was 1 teaspoon of dried ashwagandha to 2 cups water.  I added extra water because the water is boiled, then simmered with the herb in it.  The simmering time is 10 minutes.  Then it needs to steep for 30 minutes off the heat.  This is when I add the cilantro.

Strain if needed.  I'm using a gadget to contain the herb so straining is not needed.  Drink 4 ounces twice a day.  Keep the rest refrigerated until needed.  It tastes like cucumbers to me.  Love and Light!
